In a classroom

In a classroom

I’m writing as I’m sat in the classroom. The sweet grade 5’s from ages 10-15ish. 44 students. We just taught a lesson on action verbs and now their teacher is teaching them about bricks. This week the topics have bee around for are maths, cleaning the home, soil and English.

Being in a grade 5 classroom and getting a taste of the Zambian community school system where many kids fall behind and have to repeat many times, there is no set curriculum, unfinished classrooms and teachers that don’t turn up is challenging to not compare to what I experienced. The kids know no difference though and I have so been inspired by the children that are so diligent, polite, bright and happy. I love these Zambian children. I’m here just trying to immerse myself in the culture and understand more of what and why things happen that happen.

This week especially I have had many more meaningful conversations with the kids and have got myself attached a little to some kids. They are so sweet. We even have a little Hermione in the class. I love how they speak and how they are so polite. I love the cute little Zambian faces. I have a lot more to say about teaching and the projects we’re doing, with the thoughts I’m having but that’ll have to wait to a time where I have time to write properly.
