Markets & Tailors

Markets & Tailors

You can yet again find me sat with a distracted mind trying to type up some of my thoughts. I have been stuffed with culture again today and have decided to talk a little of the market and tailor experience of this last week.

The shop owners at the market are known for being very tactful, a little aggressive and overpricing ‘muzungus’. Well the first time I went with no money. You have to develop some type of special skill to deal with them. They use so many techniques to try to get you to stay and I was like ‘nah next one please’. I didn’t have too bad of a time second time round when I went to buy things, I learnt a few bargaining skills, something I’ve never done much of before, got called someones wife, sister from another mother, friend, and local. Left happy with my purchases.

Thank goodness for the real deal market, Maramba market we went with Audrey- one of the most incredible women I’ve met. She took us to get fabric, then to the tailors to explain what we want. We also went back later in the week to collect them and the photos are attached. This particular market was crowded and dungy. I may have got shouted at for taking a photo, and may have initiated a photoshoot. Photos will show.
